Old habits die hard!

People say that old habits die hard. A very old habit of mine has been to keep a pet name for everything that's dear to me, be it a person or a thing.
When it comes to someone, every person has a secret nickname, and that nickname has the power to control that person's reputation in front of the world. Funny fact is that, the funnier it is, more people know you! In a way, it makes building contacts easier! lol... For instance, one of my close friends Preksha (girl, if you're reading this, bear with me!!!) has this very Gothic look she uses to throw at me and anyone who steps on her circle of peace. Though funny, it gives me the creeps! So, with no effort at all, i named her zombie. The name stuck on, and now everyone calls her so! This new name made her unique and if possible, even more lovable... Something that we often strive to become in our regular lives.
When it comes to things, every item needs a little acknowledgment. Everything, be it a player, or a bag, or even a toothbrush fulfills an important work it is used for. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes, naming an item you hold very dear to yourself gives that sense of satisfaction in knowing that you're not alone. When I'm in a crowd of unknown faces, i turn to the comforts of iris, my mp3 player (just illustrating an example). Its an inanimate gadget, that doesn't talk, doesn't walk, but is programmed to play all the songs on its playlist fed by me using my computer. But without it, in that crowd, i would be a loner without something or someone to connect to. With it, i know I'm not alone. It plays the songs i like, when i want it to. Then why not give it a little respect, an identity of its own?
Just a thought... Think about it...

  1. I beg to differ! I don't find it obsessively compulsive to give everyone or everyting near and dear to me a nickname.. People already have names-lets give their parents some respect!-and unless the name is too long,I use the original.. And as for the non-living things,I sure love a few things I possess, never named anything though! You're right about one thing, old habits die hard. :)

  2. Hey... I'm not disrespecting anybody by not callig them by their names! Its just something different... The person can be called by his name or nickname, its his choice to make... As for naming things, i'm just sharing my obsessions... Its not harmful, its just something that anyone could do if they wanted to!

  5. Nickname for a person is endearing if he or she takes it in the right way. You don wanna offend anyone for your happiness. Nickname to inanimate objects is kinda, what can i say, sometimes appear childish..lol But if that allows us to feel closer to that thing and makes it cherishable, then why not give it a try. I have tried it and the result is i feel connected to whatever thing of mine that i have named..
